Bradford Water Main Break Leaves Residents without Water

Photo by Pat Frantz Cercone of Pitt-Bradford .

A major water main break in the city of Bradford, PA on Monday has left many area residents without water, including the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

The city of Bradford has declared a disaster emergency, and is asking residents to conserve water and to boil water before drinking. The Bradford Water Authority expects the emergency to last for several days. They say residents with heating systems dependent on water pressure from the Bradford Water Authority will likely be without heat during the emergency.

The Red Cross will have some shelter space for local residents  in need at the Sawyer Evangelical Church on  South Kendall Ave.. The City of Bradford has bottled water available by request to area residents. Citizens in need of drinking water can call 814-368-3141.  Residents may pick up drinking water at several locations  beginning Wednesday morning.

Pitt-Bradford has announced the university will be closed, with all classes canceled, for the rest of the week. Classes will resume on Monday, March 2. For students who can’t leave campus, the university is providing bottled drinking water, dining service, and portable toilets.

Crews are facing snow showers and sub-zero wind chills as they work to repair the break.
