Bradford Gets Help During Water Crisis

After Monday’s water main break in Bradford, thousands of area residents are still without water.

“Right now about 18 thousand people are affected,” says Captain J.D. Tehle of the Bradford Fire Department.Tehle says help is pouring in: from nearby townships and boroughs, and even across the state line.

“The borough of Limestone New York is providing us with drinking water.” Tehle also says help has come form the National Guard, and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management agency, which has a team on the ground helping with logistics.

The broken pipe has been repaired, but it will take days to replace the 5 million gallons of water lost in the spill, and even longer to make sure the water is safe to drink. Until then, Telhe says, Bradford will be relying on water trucked-in to Bradford in bottles and tanks.

“I know we just got another tractor trailer full in, so it’s holding out right now,” he says.

That water will be for drinking.  Residents are using the plentiful supply of snow in the area for flushing their toilets. At least all that white stuff is good for something.
