Solitary Bee Fall Workshop
Solitary Bee Fall Workshop
Join the Arboretum and researchers from the Insect Biodiversity Center as we explore what happens to the bees in Pennsylvania as winter approaches. During this workshop, we will learn about solitary bee and wasp lifestyles and about diapause, a type of "insect hibernation". To do this, we'll carefully dismantle some of the "bee hotels" that were placed in the Pollinator and Bird Garden throughout the spring and summer months and harvest the cocoons inside. For those of you with your own bee hotels at home, we will also review how to keep harvested cocoons safe and what you need to do to safely release them next spring.
