FALLOUT: a new play by Mary Gage at The State Theatre, March 30-31

FALLOUT: a new play by Mary Gage at The State Theatre, March 30-31

NOTE: There are 2 performances on both days: at at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

What would you do if you discovered that you had killed 100,000 people? After Major Claude Eatherly took part in the bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, he refused to march in the hero’s parade, or accept a hero’s pension. Desperate to prove he was not a hero, he started holding up banks and forging checks in an effort to send money to the children of Hiroshima. His exploits made him world-famous, and he stirred up every shade of opinion, from Colonel Tibbets who called him a traitor, to Gunther Anders who thought madness was the only sane reaction. Fallout, a new play by Mary Gage, follows Eatherly’s wild ride from ace World War 2 pilot to inmate of a maximum-security mental hospital and witness of present-day U.S. defense policy. It is both urgent and relevant, as the world hovers dangerously once more on the brink of nuclear war. Mary Gage, playwright, had been working to take a production to New York City in early 2020, but the pandemic had other ideas. Now, two years later, in collaboration with director Elaine Meder-Wilgus, Gage’s play opens for a full production at The State Theatre, State College, PA March 30-31 at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm daily. A cast has been assembled from New York, State College, and London to bring this play to the main stage. Tickets available at https://thestatetheatre.org/events/fallout/
