Health Minute: Vertigo

Health Minute logo

WPSU’s Health Minute is a collaboration with Penn State’s Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.

Has someone told you they feel like their head or body is spinning when they stand up, walk, or move their head?

Vertigo is a dizzy and off-balance feeling. It’s a symptom of a range of conditions, rather than a disease.

Vertigo can happen at any age when there is a problem with the inner ear, brain, or sensory nerve pathway. It is most common in people 65 years and over and is more common in women than men.

Vertigo can result in falling and other injuries from the fall. Vertigo often goes away without treatment. But if the symptoms persist, consult a health care provider to help determine the cause of the Vertigo for proper treatment.
