A recent STAT article says Black Americans are more likely to die from cancer and COVID-19, and more likely to have chronic illnesses such as diabetes and depression. There’s also chronic stress, exacerbated by disturbing high profile killings such as the recent deaths of George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks.
Now, health care professionals are speaking out. Delanor Manson, CEO of the Kentucky Nurses Association, wrote in a recent editorial that she condemns “the tentacles of racism” that systematically endanger people of color.
Manson created an action plan for nurses, including anti-bias education, mentoring and more. She joins host Robin Young to discuss these issues.
