How Elite Swimmer Lynne Cox Overcame Broken Heart Syndrome

Lynne Cox is an elite long-distance swimmer: She was the first person to swim the Strait of Magellan and around the Cape of Good Hope. But Cox developed a dangerously fast heart rate in 2012, which was later attributed to broken heart syndrome.

Her doctors considered a pacemaker and a heart transplant, but Cox recovered, and wrote about her journey in the 2016 book “Swimming in the Sink: A Memoir.” Here & Now‘s Robin Young spoke with Cox last year about her career and recovery.
