U.S. To Team Up With Russia To Fight ISIS In Syria
A new military pact between the United States and Syria would dramatically change this country’s role in the five-year-long civil war in Syria, and lead to unprecedented coordination between Russian and American military and intelligence agencies.
The new pact, being discussed today by Secretary of State John Kerry in Moscow, is aimed at rooting out and destroying ISIS in Syria. It puts the U.S. in the odd position of fighting on the same side as Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, despite repeated U.S. demands over the last five years that he leave power.
The Washington Post’s Josh Rogin writes about the proposal in today’s Washington Post and joins Here & Now‘s Robin Young to discuss the proposal.
