Timothy Ray Brown had been living with HIV for over a decade when he was diagnosed with leukemia. In an effort to fight the cancer and possibly cure the HIV, Brown was given bone marrow transplants from a donor with genes resistant to HIV.

Brown is currently HIV and leukemia free. On Wednesday, he told the audience in Penn State’s Heritage Hall he hopes more can be done in search of a cure.

“My mission is to encourage the medical community to keep looking for cures for HIV,” Brown said.
