The Folk Show Road Show: Guy Davis; and Dede Wyland, Richard Sleigh, Bruce Molsky

Dede Wyland and Bruce Molsky are featured in the first hour,  with a song from harmonica virtuoso Richard Sleigh in between.   All three are from the 2014 Folk College Saturday night concert finale,  from Halbritter Auditorium at Juniate College in Huntingdon, PA. Dede's distinctive bluegrass vocal is supported by her all male backup band, Mama Tried,  and guest Henry Koretsky on one song.   Bruce Molsky  appalachian fiddle playing and singing is center stage of course,  but he shows us what he can do on fiddle and guitar too.   And Mariel Vandersteel joins him on fiddle as well.

Guy Davis is featured in the second hour,  from a Feb 22, 2015 concert at the Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg,  part of the Susquehanna Folk Music Society Concert Series. Guy can tell you stories of his great-grandparents and his grandparents, their days as track linemen, and of their interactions with the infamous KKK.  He can also tell you that as a child raised in middle-class New York suburbs, the only cotton he’s picked is his underwear up off the floor.

Guy is a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer.  But most importantly, he is a bluesman.  Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to reviving the traditions of acoustic blues and bringing them to as many ears as possible through the material of the great blues masters, African American stories, and his own original songs, stories and performance pieces.

Mel DeYoung hosts Morning Edition on WPSU and is in the broadcast booth before 5am each weekday. That means that if he's being sensible he goes to sleep way earlier than normal people do. The differences don't end there, but you'll have to chat with Mel sometime to understand the full depth of his abnormality.
