Local artists and innovators will soon have their own space for creativity in downtown State College.
It is set to open at 137 E. Beaver Ave. in early April with the name Three Dots Downtown.
“It alludes to this idea that, dot dot dot, what possibility might come?" said Spud Marshall. "What’s the unforeseen that you’re not quite sure down the road? How could you imagine the possibilities of what might happen in this town?”
Marshall is helping shape what the new space will look like. He is hosting hour-long sessions for community members to discuss what they hope to get out of the center.
“It’s really important for us to have the community’s voice driving the direction of where we go, so when it comes to: What does the physical space look like? How might the space be used by different organizations? These are all questions we want the community to help us answer,” Marshall said.
Formerly the leasing office for The Station apartments, the new area could be used for musical performances, workshops, classes and improv shows, according to Marshall.
There will be four more community input sessionsthis week with space for 20 people per hour.
